Direct electrospinning of cellulose in the DBU-CO2 switchable solvent system

Abstract We report the use of DBU-CO 2 switchable solvent system for direct electrospinning cellulose. Two cellulose types were investigated, i.e. microcrystalline (MCC) and pulp (CP). The morphologies obtained fibers studied using scanning electron microscopy optical microscopy. Results showed that only particles with mean diameter about 1.2 μm could be when MCC was used, even at high concentration (10 wt%). In case CP, an optimized 4 wt% resulted in standing a 500nm. order to improve spinnability cellulose, different concentrations ratios PVA combination investigated. (both CP) formation unique fiber morphology, characterized by homogeneous bead-like structure. An in-depth study structure carried out Raman spectroscopy both present formed beads. Finally, challenge observed remained complete removal solvents, which are not volatile enough, as well explore coagulation collection process recovery recover re-use employed solvent.
